Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA)
 

SNEHA was founded by a group of dedicated doctors and social workers led by neonatalogist and former dean of Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Medical College (LTMGH & LTMMC), Sion, Mumbai, Dr. Armida Fernandez. SNEHA is registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950 and under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act for receipt of foreign donations.

SNEHA dedicate our energies, expertise and resources to ensure quality nutrition, education and health care of women and children.
Our Mission
SNEHA impact quality of care and influence urban health policies through innovative solutions to problems in nutrition, education and health in urban communities. We build sustainable and replicable models of intervention and partnerships that empower women to change their lives and those around them.

SNEHA approach:
  •  We work to empower women and slum communities to be catalysts of change
  • We work in close partnerships with existing systems to create sustainable change with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to improve the quality of perinatal care with the Intergrated Child Development Scheme to improve nutrition in children from the slums with private health practitioners to standardize quality of maternal and newborn care.
  •  We facilitate behavior change through Appreciative Inquiry. Using AI we have worked with over 30 health facilities and more than 1000 people.

  •  Conducting interventions and research into mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS
  •  Establishing a resource center
  •  Building models on reduction of malnutrition in children
  • Developing an internal ethics committee to review and monitor all work
  •  Establishing an internal Anti-Sexual Harassment committee to undertake preventative work as well  as act as a grievance body for redressing complaints of sexual harassment at work
  •  Piloting a project, Integrated Model of Primary Healthcare, to build an integrated model of partnership to improve the quality of health care in the areas covered by 2 health posts in Kandivili (East)
